Mr. Xoan Fernández García works as Principal Executive of the Social Innovation Initiative of Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), a multilateral development bank of Latin America. He is in charge of identifying, designing, supervising and implementing new forms of development to tackle the problems of the most vulnerable segments in Latin America through initiatives based on social entrepreneurship, public-private or community-driven business model and new technologies. Previously to his work in CAF, he worked at the Inter-American Development Bank in the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) supporting social innovation initiatives and in Chile in the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. He recently co-authored a report commissioned by the Inter-American Development Bank on energy access in Latin America. He has an MSC degree in Innovation for Sustainable Development of the Science Policy Research Unit of the University of Sussex.


Corporación Andina de Fomento is a multilateral development bank of Latin America with base in Bogotá but with a scope in Latin America. The Social Innovation Initiative (SII) looks for innovative solutions to unresolved problems that affect mainly to the Base of the Pyramid and other marginalized groups through disruptive models and non-traditional actors in the development scene. SII finances pilots to test these new approaches and foster social innovation ecosystems.
