About this course

This course explores the potential role and position of battery storage in the future European electricity industry, by shedding light on different applications of battery storage. For each of the four main applications of grid-scale, behind-the-meter, off-grid and mobility, you will learn about the most promising services of battery storage in the electricity system with a large share of renewable electricity.

The course aim is to equip you with:
• A broad understanding of battery storage applications and services based on innovative business examples
• Insights into 3 battery storage technologies and differences between batteries’ technical characteristics 
• Understanding of how those characteristics make a battery technology suited for specific applications and services.

Take this course to get a concise overview of sectors that will be involved or affected by battery storage technologies and to get inspired by the latest business innovation examples.

This course is designed for beginners with a basic understanding of the energy system and professionals who would like to get a deeper understanding of battery storage applications in the electricity industry.

Teaching methods and materials

The course is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and can be taken from the participants’ usual study location.

The course consists of 6 video lessons and is self-paced. Each lesson is approximately 20-30 minutes long and includes relevant reading materials. Business examples will be available and there will be multiple-choice tests after every lesson.

The possibility to reflect on the relevant topics and to share your opinion and thoughts through different discussion assignments will be given to you through a discussion forum available from the beginning of the course.

Time required: 1,5 hours per week
